Begin Reading Today is a great resource for the eager reader who wants to begin reading today.
Sight words can trip up the beginning reader. Begin Reading Today follows a fun and simple approach to learning sight words by introducing the new reader to one sight word at a time in a systematic, thoughtful way beginning with the easiest, most frequent words.
Colorful images that take the place of words the beginning reader may not know are embedded in the sentences to aid in the enjoyment and ease of learning new words and to prevent the frustration many new readers experience when learning how to read. The beginning reader enjoys identifying the objects in the sentences and being able to read right away.
The eager reader can read through the book at his or her own pace and complete the book mastering 50 sight words.
Here's how it works. It's very simple.
The beginning reader reads the new sight words 10 times on the first page and then reads 10 sentences containing that new sight word.
After the reader has read the 10 sentences with three or less errors, the reader is ready to learn a new sight word, and the process repeats. Each sight word learned is reinforced through out the book, so the reader is consistently reviewing sight words.
The sentences start out very simple with just one sight word and one picture. By the end of the book, the reader will be able to read a short story.
Every-day, ordinary objects have been used for the images; however, the reader may not be familiar with a particular image such as a panda - this will be an opportunity to tell the reader what that object is, and the reader's increased vocabulary will be a bonus!
Begin Reading Today contains information on correcting reading errors, where to begin if your reader already knows some sight words, an alternative method for struggling readers, and a Progress Page on which your reader can document the sight words mastered with stickers or check marks.
